Slotenmaker Den Haag: What is a lock core puller?

A lock core puller is a device for removing a spring retained cylinder core without damage thereto comprising a threaded shaft having at one end a bit to be inserted in the keyway past a couple of lock pins, and a threaded crank on the other end adapted to bear on a pressure plate to withdraw the bit, lock mechanism and lock core from the lock. A few manufacturers are: Lock-Force and Zieh-Fix.

Although this invention is subject to patent it is available from numerous outlets and has therefore become available to thieves and burglars enabling them to gain unauthorised access to homes and businesses with relative speed and without attracting attention by making noise.

Unfortunately, the easy availability of such tools has...

  • led to a massive increase of burglaries and attempted break-ins

  • a significant increase in the damage to locks and doors

  • Lock or core pulling is a 'destructive' means of unauthorised entry

  • It also often damages locks and leaves significant damage to doors

  • It is easy and does not require much technical skill

  • It makes almost no noise and allows burglars to gain unauthorised access to premises without alerting neighbours

  • Professional locksmiths will avoid pulling as a means of extracting cylinders from locks

  • Technicians and locksmiths attempting to open a door by this means should notify the owner of the possibility of damage to doors and locks

  • Many cylinders are equipped with a separate front that breaks off preventing entry after core pulling

  • As a consequence, it may be difficult to open doors after an attempted break in

  • If in doubt, call a professional locksmith to prevent further damage

  • Core pulling can be prevented with anti-core pulling escutcheons and protective plates

Slotenmaker Den Haag | Locksmith The Hague will gladly advise home owners on how to prevent core pulling and we can provide all necessary materials to prevent burglars from opening your door by this means.

Note: core pulling is a destructive means of opening a cylinder or lock. Our technicians will only use this method in very specific cases where non-destructive means of entry are not available. Be advised that frauds who are not certified locksmiths are very fond of core pulling because it is fast and they do not mind damaging locks because they can sell you more material afterwards.

*A-keys | Slotenmaker Den Haag will only charge for call-outs in the following instances; a) in case of cancellation (you must cancel at least 30 minutes before an appointment), b) if a visit is necessary to assess a situation or draw up a quote, c) if a technician has to make extra visits to bring materials to our workshop for repair or aquire extra materials that we do not stock. Our technicians will always do their best to avoid or limit damage (e.g. to locks, cylinders and doors). Unfortunately it is not possible to guarantee zero damage with 100% certainty. Where possible, our technicians will seek to limit damage to material goods and to avoid extra expenses for clients. When a technician can foresee the possibility of damage, for example in the event a cylinder needs to be drilled, he will inform the customer and leave the decision to them. If a customer cancels or calls off an order, e.g. in the event that a dooropening might incur extra unforeseen expenses, the technician has the right to charge call-out fees. Technicians will always inform the customer if call-out fees will be charged. As far as possible, technicians will inform customers of any other possible expenses. For more information we refer to our Terms & Conditions. The prices on this website are estimates based on the approximate price of goods and services and do not confer any rights as prices may vary according to situation!

**A-keys | Slotenmaker Den Haag provides only SKG-Ikob certified materials and goods. In exceptional cases we will replace uncertified materials for similar or same materials or manufacture our own materials according to our own very strict criteria. Because the SKG-Ikob certificate does not guarantee security but does cost significantly more, we sometimes recommend non-certified materials and goods where we find safety and security are not compromised.
